Greek Army: EURO PULS Under Review With Long-Range Strike Capability up to 300 km

Greece is reportedly in advanced negotiations with Israel to purchase 36 PULS (Precise & Universal Launching System) multiple-rocket launcher systems manufactured by Elbit Systems, in a major step toward modernizing its armed forces and boosting its air-defense and long-range strike capabilities.

The estimated cost for the 36 PULS systems is €650 million.

According to available information the Hellenic Army General Staff is examining the acquisition of the European EURO PULS variant, with a mix of munitions of different calibers:

  • Accular 122 mm and 160 mm for short- and medium-range strikes.
  • EXTRA 306 mm for targets up to 150 km.
  • Predator Hawk 370 mm, the system’s most powerful munition, with a maximum range of 300 km.

If acquired, these PULS systems would give Greece a substantial boost in deterrence, particularly in its eastern borders (Evros) and the Aegean islands

They could gradually replace older, Russian-made systems in the Hellenic Army’s inventory, such as the OSA, TOR-M1, and S-300, increasing interoperability with NATO systems.

Strategic Context: The “Achilles Shield” Plan

The potential acquisition is part of a broader defense strategy dubbed the “Achilles Shield”, under which Greece aims to build a multi-layered air-defense network combining anti-aircraft systems, missile defense, and artillery.

According to officials, Greece plans to spend around €28 billion by 2036 to modernize its military, including the purchase of new fighter jets (such as F-35s), frigates, and submarines.
